Three Exceptional Days at InfoComm 2016: Day the Third

CashBooth_450x300So… First you did this, then you did this. And let’s be honest, you’re probably at InfoComm 2016 in Las Vegas for more than three days, so there are slew of other things you can do or already did. But in the interest of themes, we’ve arrived at Day Three. Tres. Trois. Drie. þrjú. 세.

Thursday, June 9

This just in: Visit the InfoComm booth in the Grand Concourse Lobby over three days — Wed. to Fri. to be exact. There will be a lot going on. (Remember the guy in last year’s Cash Box? That’s him in the picture. Guess how much he grabbed. Seriously, guess.) But one of the things I’m excited for is a series of chats with industry leaders (and me!) about how pro AV is changing and why they’ve gotten involved. Starting Wed., you can come by and hear me chat with John Arpino, CTS-D, Manager of Audiovisual Engineering and Design at Google; Nancy Trefny, Associate Principal at Cerami & Associates; and Gary Hall, CTS-D, CTS-I, Chief Technology Officer, Federal Defense, at Cisco. Then on Thurs. (today), I’ve got Victoria Dade, National Channel Director at Sonic Foundry; Florian Rotberg, Managing Director at Invidis Consulting; and Julian Phillips, Executive Vice President at Whitlock. Finally Fri. (tomorrow), catch my chats with David Danto, Principal Consultant at Dimension Data, and our own Executive Director David Labuskes, CTS, RCDD. So drop by the booth and take a load off. The chats are just 15-20 minutes, but you get to hear from some wicked smart people. You can find specific times and more on this page.

But back to Thursday. Maybe your day starts with the Women of InfoComm Network Breakfast (7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.), followed by the WIN Council meeting. I’ll wait while you open another tab in your browser and register for the breakfast, because space at this popular event fills up fast.

In fact, Thursday of InfoComm 2016 is a big day for councils, meaning if you want to meet with AV folks who do what you do and suggest programs or initiatives that InfoComm could pursue, you can join a council meeting. Thursday includes meetings for WIN (9:30 a.m.), the Independent Consultants in AV Technology Council (9 a.m.),  the Independent Technology Services (ITS) Council (12:30 p.m.) the Live Events Council (12:30 p.m.) and the Tech Managers Council (3 p.m.). All are in the Westgate. Locations vary. Join a council today and get up to speed.

Got time for classes? Check out IS45 – How to Be an Effective AV Mentor (8 a.m. to 10 a.m.), IS47 – Developing Software Specifications for an Audiovisual System (10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.), IS59 – AV in an Information Technology World: Emerging Trends, New Technologies (12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.), and IS67 – Developing and Deploying Enterprise AV Standards (2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). And that’s not nearly everything. Remember, the all-you-can-learn Seminar & Workshop Package gives you the ultimate flexibility to mix and match education sessions.

Today is also the day of the annual UCC/IMCCA Lunch and Learn (UCCL02 – The State of UCC Lunch and Learn: End Users Speak Their Minds). Always a panel of industry leaders; always standing room only. Ya gotta eat anyway. Might as well do it here and get your learn on. It’s 12:30 pm. to 2 p.m.

At some point today, get thee to the Beer Garden (it’s out front, but with A.C.), maybe take a CTS Exam, and duck under flying objects at the Drone Pavilion (not really; they’re in a cage). Maybe stop by the InfoComm Show Store in the lobby and pick up a copy of the all-new CTS-D Exam Guide, which someone in this conversation (and a bunch of other, much smarter people) worked on.

Hey, you’ve still got tomorrow (a.k.a. Friday, June 10). Which, by the way, will be some lucky person’s next chance to step into the InfoComm Cash Box.

Did you guess how much last year’s lucky guy grabbed?
