Greetings from Dubai: IFMEA 2012 Wrap Up

Greetings from Dubai: IFMEA 2012 Wrap Up

Greetings from Dubai. Our five-day IFMEA show has finally ended. It is strange to see the once-bustling Dubai World Trade Centre deserted as our show and GITEX drew to a close. I had the good fortune to speak to many of our members from the Middle East and Africa and it is exciting to hear of their future plans to attend regional social events and classes. Just as Dubai blends traditions with innovation, so will InfoComm’s programming.

Burgeoning Beijing — InfoComm China Show Shatters Records

Burgeoning Beijing — InfoComm China Show Shatters Records

Is 2012 the Year of the AV Trade Show? At the close of day two of InfoComm China 2012, attendance hovered close to 15,000 (14,868), representing a 39 percent increase over its previous showing in 2011. Final attendance at close of the 3-day exhibition is expected to exceed 16,000, a record turnout. Record attendance is also driving interest in industry education. The 30 sessions of the InfoComm China Summit education program attracted a record attendance of 1,550 delegates, more than double that of last year. Exhibitors are so thrilled with the 38 percent increase in visitor attendance over last year, that InfoComm China is expanding in 2013 with two additional halls.

Elated exhibitors are responding by signing up for larger booths for the 2013 event in order to accommodate the crowds that converged on the 22,000 sq metres (237,000 sq ft) of Halls 1 to 4 this year. The 2013 show will expand to Halls 5 and 6 next year to cater to the additional demand for space. Demand is coming not just from existing exhibitors, but from other manufacturers that have visited the show and indicated their intent to join next year’s event.

InfoComm China 2013 will take place from 10-12 April at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing.

We hope to see you there!

All Around the Roundtable in DC

All Around the Roundtable in DC

The start of the New Year also marks the start of the InfoComm
Roundtables! As a relative InfoComm newbie, I felt as if this event would help me better understand our members and their roles in the AV industry. Fortunately, the roundtable tour began near Washington D.C., in nearby Herndon, so this gave me the opportunity to attend my first roundtable.

In about 15 minutes on the bumpy back roads of Fairfax, I found myself at the Washington Dulles Marriott at Worldgate.

Shortly after I arrived to the roundtable, we all settled in the meeting room as we prepared for Peggy O’Keefe’s presentation on project management. Her presentation, titled Love, Addiction, and Product Management – A Manager’s Guide to Maintaining Balance, gave us insight on the perils of becoming too involved and obsessive with a project and how it can harm the outcome of a project. I found the presentation to be fascinating; she was very enthusiastic and raised many good points that can also be applied to my field of work.

After the last presentation, the participants broke up and began the networking portion of the event. Although I was on photography duty, I took advantage of the opportunity to connect with industry members and ask our members about our social media activities.

I found this event to be a valuable experience, as it gave me a first-hand opportunity to meet the InfoComm membership and learn more about our industry. Looking forward to attending another one soon!

Greetings from the Windy City

Greetings from the Windy City

InfoComm breezed through the first day of its three-day membership & outreach events in the Chicago. Day one got off to a great start with Manufacturers’ Training sessions from Biamp, Chief, Cisco and Digital Projection. The afternoon session included presentations covering finacial best practices and digital signage. The day ended with a lively roundtable discussion amongst InfoComm members and future audiovisual industry leaders, including 20 AV students from nearby Columbia College, who stopped by to gain valuable industry insight. InfoComm staff is looking forward to repeat success during the remainder of our trip in the heartland!

Nihao from InfoComm China 2011!

Nihao from InfoComm China 2011!

InfoComm China 2011 opened its doors to more than 10,500 attendees in Beijing this week. The show floor had quite a buzz!  The show was the biggest InfoComm event ever staged in Asia, and visitor attendance was also at its highest ever. An increase of 16% over the last show in 2009 and the highest number ever achieved at an InfoComm show in China.  More importantly, exhibitors were happy with the high quality of these visitors.  The InfoComm China Summit, which encompasses InfoComm Academy® Seminars, Manufacturers’ Presentations, Industry Conferences and Technical Site Visits, was attended by 797 delegates.

InfoComm China 2011 occupied three of the four halls available at the China National Convention Centre, and the organizer has announced that they will be taking all four halls when it returns to Beijing, April 11-13, 2012, in order to cater to demand for bigger booths from current exhibitors as well as bookings from new exhibitors, many of whom could not secure space at this 2011 event as the show was completely sold out.

Philadelphia Findings

Philadelphia Findings

Greetings from the city of brotherly love – and there is plenty of love for InfoComm today with more than 50 members in attendance at our fourth roundtable of the year.

Before the roundtable, my morning was spent walking what seemed like miles and miles of floor at the brand new Pennsylvania Convention Center and checking out a spot for the next InfoComm Lunch & Tour. Digital signage, integrated sound systems and a façade that lights up to feature, among other things, the American flag — this expansion is sure to wow with the latest cutting edge audiovisual trends. The space features InfoComm members throughout – AVI-SPL, Acentech, Chief and Biamp all have a hand in this new installation and will be a part of the panel discussion at the Lunch & Tour this July. InfoComm is out and about in more ways than one and I encourage each of you to attend an InfoComm event in your neighborhood soon!
